Intellectual disability (ID), once called mental retardation, is characterized by below-average intelligence or mental ability and a lack of skills necessary for day-to-day living. The American Association on Mental Retardation defines mental retardation as “a disability characterized by significant limitations both in intellectual functioning and in adaptive behavior as expressed in conceptual, social, and practical adaptive skills. This disability originates before 18th."

• - Genetical – 21 Trisomy- Down Syndrome- Mongolism and other chromosomal abnormality.

• - Some infections of brain – tubercular meningitis, viral (rubella), protozoal (toxoplasma) etc.
